Blur the background. Keep the subject sharp.

A portrait-mode look for photos that were taken without it. The subject is cut out, the scene behind it is softened, and you choose how much.

Why blur instead of removing

Removing the background entirely can look like a cut-out sticker. A blur keeps the colours and light of the real scene, so the photo still feels like it was taken there, just with a wide-open lens. That makes it the safer choice for profile photos, team pages and listings where a flat colour would look staged.

Questions

How strong can the blur be?

The slider runs from 5 to 100. Around 30 gives a gentle portrait-lens look; 100 turns the scene into soft colour.

Does the blur follow the subject outline?

Yes. The subject is cut out first, so its edge stays crisp while everything behind it is softened, including the gaps between arms and hair.

Can I blur only part of the background?

Use the brush in the Subject tab: Restore paints parts of the original back in sharp, Erase sends them to the blurred layer.

Can I blur and change the colour too?

Pick one backdrop at a time. For a coloured soft look, choose a gradient instead of the blur; for a soft photo look, choose Garden blur or your own photo.
